What is the difference between SMS and MMS messaging?

Short Message Service (SMS) is a text messaging service that sends/receives short text messages, while Multimedia Messaging Service (MMS) is a text messaging service that exchanges text messages that include media such as pictures, GIFs, etc. 

Examples of MMS messages that you may receive in Cadence include pictures of student transcripts, letters of recommendation, and applications. If a student replies with text only, that message is considered SMS.
