What fields are required on contact imports?

Required Fields

There are four "Cadence fields" that are required on each contact record you import into the platform:

  • ContactId (or StudentId)
  • FirstName
  • LastName
  • MobileNumber 

Note: The fields must be named exactly as they appear here in your import. ContactID/StudentID need to be a unique identifier for each contact. This can be a school issued ID, a system ID or any unique ID.

Additionally, Admin users can specify other custom fields to be required on each import. If custom fields are set to Required (see article on how to  Configure Fields), they must be present on each import. The field can be blank and not contain any values, but needs to be included in the import.

Optional Fields

There are two other "Cadence fields" that are recommended (optional):

  • OptedOut
  • StaffId
Note: In your import, if you include the recommended fields, they must be named exactly as they appear above.  StaffID/UserID is a unique identifier for the Cadence user. This is usually an ID from your system of record/CRM/ERP (if using an integration, please view integration documentation as there may be specific IDs needed).
